Song Of The Week - 08/10/12

After a brief hiatus to celebrate our blissful matrimony, Cassandra and I are back to reality.  And our return couldn't be more timely as now we're able to spend our evenings on the couch watching the Olympics.  The only problem is that for the past week, I've had to overcome the urge to play the Google Doodles instead of doing something productive.  That, and my self-esteem takes a hit whenever I see a shirtless athlete...well, except for maybe a power lifter, but that's a whole other ball of inadequate wax.

Purity Ring - Fineshrine
The Canadian duo Purity Ring was born in 2011 when Corin Roddick (production) and Megan James (vocals) joined forces to produce the track "Ungirthed."  In late July, they released their debut album Shrines to near-ubiquitous critical praise, and in my opinion, it has been warranted.  When Roddick's unearthly productions are combined with James' macabre and disturbing lyrics, something just clicks.  After a couple weeks of repeated listenings, I'm confident in saying that they've released one of the best records of the year thus far, and I can't recommend it highly enough.  Take a listen to "Fineshrines," a track that I feel is one of group's strongest offerings, and if you like what you hear, it's a safe bet that you'll be completely enamored with the entire album.
