Song Of The Week - 05/18/12

Another week, another untimely passing of a musical icon.  Long-time receivers of the Song Of The Week e-mail will undoubtedly know of my fondness for all things disco and new wave, so news of Donna Summers' death was unwelcome and saddening.  If any solace can be taken, it's due to the fact that she left an indelible mark on the music industry, and her influence can still be heard today.  She was the original disco diva, and dancefloors the world over owe her a debt of gratitude.

Van She - Idea Of Happiness

After a four-year hiatus, the Sydney-based electropop quartet of Matt Van Schie, Tomek Archer, Nick Routledge, and Michael Di Francesco are set to release their sophomore LP on July 10th.  "Idea Of Happiness" is the first single to be taken from the album of the same name, and if it is any indication of the quality of the rest of the record, it's a safe bet that the wait was worthwhile.  In the fashion of fellow Modular stablemates Cut Copy and Bag Raiders, they've crafted an uplifting, synth-drenched summer anthem perfect for soaking in the sun or just enjoying a lazy afternoon.
